Adoption Procedures
Look through the kennel to see if you find a pet that interests you.  You can also look online by clicking here to see a list of animals currently in our care.

If you find an animal you are interested in, talk with the kennel staff about the animal's personality and have them take the animal out of the kennel for a closer look.

Fill out an application, receive approval from kennel staff, and take the application to the front counter for processing.

  • If you rent, you will need written approval from your landlord giving you permission to adopt that specific animal.
  • All family members must approve of the animal of your choice.
  • If you are interested in a dog adoption and already own other dogs, you must show proof of a current rabies vaccine, current license and complete a successful dog visit.
  • It is a zoning violation in the City of Eugene to have more than three dogs permanently living at any one residence.
  • If you live in the unincorporated area of Lane County and own more than two dogs, you have the option of purchasing a non-commerical kennel license, or you may choose to license your dogs individually.

Once you have filled out your application and turn it in to the front office staff, you will have one business day to complete the application requirements and make payment.

You can begin the adoption process immediately upon the animal's arrival at the shelter although it may not be available for release until a few days later.

High Energy - Loves to play, go for walks and learn new things.  Will need daily interaction and activities.

Medium Energy - Will need mild daily interaction and low activity.

Low Energy - A couch potato that will need daily interaction and low activity.
Outgoing - The life of the party and full of surprises.  Makes friends with new people easily.

Shy - Needs gentle guidance to help warm up to new people and/or things.

Independent - A free spirit and I like to make my own decisions.  Teach me some tricks and I will shine.

LCAS impounds over 2,000 animals each year.  With the support of the community we are able to save the lives of the many adoptable animals that enter our shelter.  Think adoption first!
