Join the Lane County Master Recyclers of Florence! Register by January 9!
Have you noticed that the City of Florence is getting greener? Styrofoam recycling drop-off sites have sprung up at several locations around town. You can now dispose of unwanted drugs safely at the local police department. Corks and batteries are collected for recycling at city hall. Composting of food waste is on the rise. You can even borrow recycling bins for your events such as Relay4Life and Rhody Days. All of these new recycling and waste reduction options are free to residents and guests and Florence Master Recyclers had a hand in all of them.
You too can learn how to reduce your solid waste, conserve natural resources, motivate others to change their habits, and make a difference in your community. If this sounds appealing, please attend the only Master Recycler training class scheduled for the Florence area and join more than 560 Lane County Master Recyclers that have contributed more than 18,000 hours of waste prevention education to the residents of Lane County since the program’s inception in 2000.
Lane County Waste Management Division is offering a training course this winter that is designed to provide comprehensive training in solid waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and compost education in return for 30 hours of volunteer outreach that will educate your fellow Lane County residents to reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink. You may already be volunteering to reduce waste and conserve natural resources in your community. The Master Recycler Program offers a unique behind-the-scenes understanding that will inform, inspire and prepare active volunteers to educate and motive community members to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Retirees, folks new to the community, teachers, green job seekers, parents, and high school or college students studying sustainability, and business owners and employees tasked with reducing solid waste in the workplace all find common purpose in the Master Recycler community.
The Master Recycler training course includes at least 35 hours of instruction – nine class sessions, a compost demonstration and two multi-site field trips to area solid waste and recycling sites. Instructors are local experts in solid waste from the business, government and non-profit sectors.
